Service Description

Hand-building is an ancient pottery-making technique that involves creating forms without a pottery wheel, using the hands, fingers, and simple tools. This Course is designed to give the students knowledge and practice of hand-building techniques. What to expect: This course is designed for kids & teens providing with a grounding in hand building techniques, as well as the information and resources to enable you to continue the practice beyond the course. You will work on pieces, each exploring different techniques, gradually building in complexity as the course progresses based on kids ability and curiosity. What is Included: In this course we’ll be exploring basic hand building techniques which provide the building blocks for any form you can think of. This includes slab building, coil building, pinch pots, and using different shaped moulds. The final pieces will be glazed at the end of the course, and they will be fired here at the studio. We will also provide you with guidance about the tools and equipment you will need to facilitate your new passion beyond the course, as well as suppliers and contacts for your practice. Please note this course is hand building only, and will not include any time on a pottery wheel. The course price includes all materials, tools and Clay for the course, firing the selected ones by the instructor and 8 sessions. Course Structure: This course will run over 4 consecutive weeks, taking place on the same day and time every week, with sessions lasting 2 hrs. There will be a maximum of 8 students per class, ensuring that each get focused teaching time. Your final pieces will be ready for collection approximately 10 days after your final session. Payments: The course must be paid for in advance. Payment details will be sent to you via email, along with detailed information prior to the course beginning. Cancellation and refunds: If you wish to cancel the booking, you must do so at least 1 week before it starts to receive a full refund. If you cancel your place less than a week before your workshop starts, you will only receive a refund of 50%. Alternatively you can reschedule and book onto another course. If you cannot attend a session within the 8 week course we can discuss the available options for you if informed a day prior to the class.
