Wheel Throwing - L1 (Beginners)

Fundamentals to wheel throwing pottery

Wheel Throwing is pottery making technique that involves creating forms with a pottery wheel, using the hands, fingers, and simple tools. This course is designed to give you a greater knowledge and practice of Wheel Throwing which involves a few steps or medium from the beginning to the end of making a pot on the wheel. This 5 week course is aimed at beginners, providing you with a grounding in wheel throwing techniques, as well as the information and resources to enable you to continue the practice beyond the course. You will work on basic form that is, Cylinder, which is the foundation and base for any forms of pottery on the wheel, Exploring the preparation of clay, Basic techniques of making a cylinder. Recycling of clay. Basic introduction to Glazing and firing your finished pieces and Some tips and tricks of using different techniques and process of working with clay gradually building in complexity as the course progresses.

 

What’s Included: In this course we’ll be exploring basic forms of pottery on the wheel as explained above. There will be a session on glazing your pieces at the end of the course, and you can glaze your pieces using studio glaze and they will be fired here at the studio. We will also provide you with guidance about the tools and equipment you will need to facilitate your new passion beyond the course, as well as suppliers and contacts for your practice. Please note you will be working on an electric wheel. The course price includes all materials, Apron, 10kg Clay, Glazes used for your pieces, firing chargers of the selected ones by your instructor, 10 sessions of tuition and 6 sessions of Open studios.

 

Course Structure: This course will run over 5 consecutive weeks taking place on the same day and time every week, with sessions lasting 2.5 hrs. Glazing session will be decided according to you finishing your final pieces. There will be a maximum of 6 students per class, ensuring that each get focused teaching time. Your final pieces will be ready for collection approximately 10 days after your final session.

 

Payments: The course must be paid for in advance. Payment details will be sent to you upon registration by the system. In case you need a invoice copy please feel free to contact us.

 

Cancellation and refunds: If you wish to cancel the booking, you must do so at least 1 week before it starts to receive a full refund. If you cancel your place less than 7 days before the course starts, you will not receive a refund. Alternatively you can reschedule and book onto another course, informing us 7 days before your course.
